HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com is reporting that Clipse has officially parted ways with Def Jam after the label insisted on removing Kendrick Lamar’s guest verse from their upcoming album, “Let God Sort Em Out.” This development was revealed in a recent interview with Pusha T, where he detailed the breakdown of their relationship with the prominent label over the controversial feature on the track “Chains & Whips.”
Pusha T disclosed that Def Jam requested he ask Kendrick to censor his verse, a demand he refused to comply with. The situation escalated when Def Jam’s lawyer indicated that if the verse remained, the label would drop Clipse altogether. Pusha explained, “They wanted me to ask Kendrick to censor his verse, which of course I was never doing. And then they wanted me to take the record off. And so, after a month of not doing it, Steve Gawley, the lawyer over there was like, ‘We’ll just drop the Clipse.’”
The label’s apprehension stemmed from concerns regarding the optics of two of Drake’s rivals collaborating on a track amidst his ongoing lawsuit against UMG. Consequently, Clipse decided to leave Def Jam and have since signed with Roc Nation to release their highly anticipated reunion album.
In addition to the shake-up with their label, Clipse recently announced the release date for “Let God Sort Em Out,” which will arrive on July 11. The album is executive produced by longtime collaborator Pharrell Williams and was recorded at the headquarters of Louis Vuitton in Paris.
The promotional rollout for the album included a cinematic trailer showcasing the duo in the studio, accompanied by historical footage featuring iconic figures such as Mike Tyson and DJ Clue. The artistic direction for the project has also been supported by renowned artist KAWS, who designed the album’s artwork.
As Clipse prepares for their comeback, HipHopRaisedMeTheBlog.com will continue to provide updates on the album and any developments in the ongoing narrative surrounding their split from Def Jam. Fans eagerly await what promises to be a powerful return for the duo, as they navigate the complexities of the music industry.
