Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward has been arrested following a domestic altercation at his residence early Thursday morning. According to records from Montgomery County Jail, the 33-year-old NFL veteran was taken into custody shortly after 5:30 AM and booked around 6:30 AM. He is currently being held without bond.
Ward faces charges of third-degree felony family assault, which is a significant escalation from a standard assault charge. Authorities allege that he impeded the breathing of a victim during the incident, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The Houston Texans have acknowledged the arrest but have not provided further details. Omar Majzoub, the team’s senior director of communications, stated, “We are aware of the report involving Jimmie Ward. We are gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
Jimmie Ward was selected as a first-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2014 and has since built a notable career in the NFL. He has played in both the 2020 and 2024 Super Bowls, though the 49ers were defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in both matches. In 2023, he signed a two-year, $10.5 million contract with the Texans, which was extended in 2024.
Last season, Ward recorded 48 tackles and two interceptions across ten games before a foot injury sidelined him. He is still recovering from surgery and has not participated in the team’s mandatory minicamp. The Texans made a playoff appearance last season but were eliminated in the first round by the Chiefs.
