Fat Joe is facing a serious legal challenge as his former hype man, Terrance “T.A.” Dixon, has filed a $20 million lawsuit against him. The federal lawsuit, submitted on June 20, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, contains alarming allegations including coercion, intimidation, and sexual misconduct.
Dixon claims that during his 16 years with Fat Joe, he was underpaid and cut out of promised earnings for his contributions to various album tracks. The lawsuit alleges that Fat Joe engaged in deceptive practices regarding his income and abandoned Dixon in foreign countries without any means to return home. Furthermore, Dixon alleges that Fat Joe operates a criminal organization characterized by violence and intimidation.
The lawsuit includes shocking claims that Fat Joe coerced Dixon into engaging in approximately 4,000 sexual acts with women in front of him and his crew. It also accuses the rapper of having sexual relationships with minors, specifically girls aged 15 and 16, with allegations stretching back to when Fat Joe was in his late 30s. The lawsuit states that one of Fat Joe’s songs, “She’s My Mama,” reflects these alleged real-life incidents.
Dixon asserts that his role extended beyond that of a typical hype man, as he was involved in co-writing lyrics, structuring hooks, and performing at over 200 live shows. He also claims to have managed travel logistics and acted as Fat Joe’s bodyguard during tours. Despite his significant contributions, the lawsuit alleges that Dixon was not properly credited or compensated for his work.
Fat Joe’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, has dismissed the allegations as “complete fabrications,” calling the lawsuit a “blatant act of retaliation” following a slander lawsuit Fat Joe filed against Dixon in April. In that lawsuit, Fat Joe accused Dixon of making false claims about him on social media.
The legal battle comes amid a tumultuous time in the hip-hop industry, with other high-profile figures also facing serious allegations. Dixon’s attorney, Tyrone Blackburn, is also representing other clients in similar cases, highlighting a growing trend of accountability in the music industry.
