On June 24, 2008, RZA, the legendary rapper and producer known for his work with the Wu-Tang Clan, released his fourth solo studio album, Digi Snacks. This album represents his third project under the Bobby Digital alias and continues the narrative established in his previous album, Digital Bullet. Originally titled Digi Snax, the album’s name was changed prior to its release.
Digi Snacks spans a length of 60 minutes and features a unique blend of hip-hop influences, showcasing RZA’s innovative production style. It was released on Koch Records and includes contributions from various producers such as David Banner, Che Vicious, and John Frusciante, as well as live instrumentation from the Wu-Tang Clan-affiliated funk/soul group Stone Mecca.
The album’s first single, “You Can’t Stop Me Now,” features fellow Wu-Tang member Inspectah Deck, while another notable track, “Drama,” includes contributions from Monk of Black Knights and singer Thea van Seijen. The album also hints at a second single, “Straight Up the Block,” produced by David Banner.
RZA described Digi Snacks as “simply fun hip-hop,” emphasizing its blend of reality, fiction, sci-fi, and martial arts elements. The album was met with mixed reviews from critics, with some praising its creativity while others offered more tempered responses.
In support of Digi Snacks, RZA embarked on a US tour that featured surprise appearances from Wu-Tang members and affiliates, further enhancing the album’s promotional efforts. The album cover, designed by Gary Alford, includes a brief comic within the packaging, adding a visual element to the listening experience.
