On July 11, 2025, we celebrate the 19th anniversary of Rhymefest’s debut studio album, Blue Collar, originally released on July 11, 2006. This album marked a significant entry into the hip-hop scene, showcasing Rhymefest’s lyrical talent and unique perspective.
Released through Allido/J Records, Blue Collar was recorded over three years (2003–2006) in various studios, including Animal House Studios in Milwaukee, Baseline Recording Studios II in New York, and Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta, among others. The album boasts production from an impressive lineup of renowned producers, including Kanye West, Just Blaze, Mark Ronson, Cool & Dre, and No I.D., each contributing their distinctive sound to the project.
With a runtime of 58 minutes, Blue Collar features standout tracks such as “Brand New,” “Dynomite (Going Postal),” and “Stick.” The album addresses themes of struggle, resilience, and the everyday challenges faced by the working class. It also includes guest appearances from notable artists like Kanye West, Bump J, Citizen Cope, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, enriching the album’s diversity and depth.
Upon its release, Blue Collar debuted at number 61 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 10 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, with “Brand New” making it to number 32 on the UK singles chart. The critical reception was positive, with several publications praising its lyrical content and production quality.
