In a surprising turn of events, Raekwon’s cannabis dispensary, HashStoria, has been shut down due to an alleged failure to pay rent, just as he released his new album, “Emperor’s New Clothes.” According to court documents obtained by TMZ, a judge ruled in favor of the building’s landlord, BMHC LLC, forcing HashStoria to vacate the premises by July 1, leaving the space empty and unused.
Raekwon expressed his disappointment, stating, “We were hoodwinked, and while it’s a very sad outcome, we will have our day in court!” The team behind HashStoria plans to take legal action against the landlord, arguing that they had an initial agreement that back rent would be prorated while the building underwent construction, which took longer than anticipated.
The representative for HashStoria claims that delays caused by the City of Newark regarding permits hindered their operations, and during this time, they reached an agreement with the landlord to halt rent payments while generating no revenue. Additionally, the dispensary faced competition from an unlicensed operation next door that was reportedly raided multiple times, leading HashStoria to adopt the slogan “Legal AF” in response to the situation.
Despite the setbacks, HashStoria employees are currently being compensated through their vacation time, but the business cannot continue as planned. Meanwhile, BMHC LLC maintains that they provided ample time for HashStoria to pay rent after its grand opening, asserting that they are already considering new leasing offers for the space.
