In a significant federal drug trafficking case, Mekael Desean Daniels, a 55-year-old Georgia man, has been sentenced to 24 years and four months in prison after being found with nearly 250 pounds of cocaine and an impressive $600,000 in cash at his Buckhead condominium. Federal prosecutors revealed that Daniels was operating a stash house in the upscale condo building.
The operation was uncovered in December 2022, during which law enforcement discovered over 242 pounds of cocaine that had recently been transported from Mexico, along with 62 grams of fentanyl that had been pressed into pills. A search of Daniels’ vehicle in the garage yielded a bag containing $500,000 and a shoebox with an additional $100,000, believed to be proceeds from cocaine sales.
Daniels pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to possess cocaine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute in March of this year. This conviction marks his fourth for drug trafficking, highlighting a troubling pattern of criminal behavior.
During the sentencing, Paul Brown, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Atlanta, emphasized the severity of Daniels’ actions, stating, “Daniels was a repeat offender fueling the flow of deadly drugs into our communities.” He, along with Jae W. Chung, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Division, issued a stern warning to drug traffickers that they can no longer operate without consequence.
