Dallas-based rapper BigXthaPlug, whose real name is Xavier Landum, has been released from the Dallas County Jail following his arrest on charges related to gun and drug possession. The 27-year-old artist was booked late Friday afternoon, although details regarding his bond amount have not been made public.
The arrest stemmed from a traffic stop that occurred on South Great Trinity Forest Way near U.S. 175 at approximately 8:43 p.m. According to Dallas police, officers pulled over a pickup truck that was missing its front license plate. During the stop, the officer inquired whether the driver, identified as Landum, was in possession of a firearm. BigXthaPlug confirmed that he had a gun and indicated its location within the vehicle. However, a check of a criminal database revealed that Landum was flagged as being connected to a gang in Arlington, which legally barred him from possessing a firearm. In addition to the gun, police reported finding a small amount of marijuana in the truck.
The timing of his arrest was particularly unfortunate for BigXthaPlug, as he was scheduled to celebrate the release of his new album, I Hope You’re Happy, at a nightclub in Deep Ellum on the same night he was apprehended. He was also slated to attend another release event at a Wingstop location in Dallas the following evening.
