Justin Malik York, a 30-year-old man suspected of murder in Raleigh, North Carolina, has been returned to Wake County after being arrested in New York City earlier this month. According to records from the Wake County Detention Center, York is now in custody as of Tuesday.
The Raleigh Police Department announced that York was apprehended on August 13 in New York City and was awaiting extradition back to North Carolina at that time. He is alleged to be involved in a deadly shooting that took place on June 19 in the 4500 block of Colscott Place in southeast Raleigh, where 26-year-old Rakel Olajuwan Kirtz was killed.
York, originally from Aberdeen in Moore County, faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Court records indicate that he is scheduled for his first court appearance in Wake County on Wednesday afternoon.
