In a significant law enforcement victory, a notorious street gang that had turned parts of Queens into a war zone has been dismantled, leading to a Labor Day weekend free from gun violence in the area. Authorities announced that numerous members of the Floss Money Ballers crew were arrested last week following a collaborative investigation by the NYPD and the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz reported, “It was a very quiet weekend for violent crime in Southeast Queens,” attributing the calmness directly to the arrests of gang members. She emphasized the impact of these arrests on community safety, stating that the streets of Southeast Queens are now much safer.
The Floss Money Ballers, an offshoot of the Money World crew, had been responsible for a surge of violence in neighborhoods such as Laurelton, Queens Village, Springfield Gardens, and Baisley Park during a year-long turf war with rival gang Blitz Gang 4. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch noted that the gang had used violence as “currency,” engaging in retaliatory shootings that escalated minor disputes into deadly confrontations.
One of the most violent incidents linked to the gang occurred on September 27, when 18-year-old Akim Cisse was fatally shot in a McDonald’s parking lot. This was followed by a retaliatory shooting against a rival’s home. The gang’s violent history includes multiple shootings, some occurring in broad daylight and endangering innocent bystanders.
Throughout the investigation, law enforcement officials seized over a dozen firearms, including a loaded .40-caliber Glock that was discarded by a suspect. Eight gang members were arrested last week, while four others were already in custody, facing serious charges such as conspiracy, attempted murder, and felony weapons possession.
Mayor Eric Adams praised the takedown, stating, “There’s a clear correlation to decrease in violence,” highlighting the importance of such operations in maintaining public safety. The community is hopeful that the absence of gang activity will lead to continued peace and reduced crime rates in the future.
