BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Charles (Boxing Bar) Hernandez, 52, has been sentenced to life in prison for the triple murder he committed in East New York in June 2020. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the sentencing on Wednesday following Hernandez’s conviction on May 21 for one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder, among other charges.
The violent spree began on June 20, 2020, when Hernandez approached Kenneth Singleton, 35, while he was washing his car outside his home near Milford Street and Blake Avenue. Disguised and armed, Hernandez shot Singleton multiple times in the head, leading to his death.
Just a week later, on June 27, Hernandez targeted Stephanie Perkins, 39, and Chioke Thompson, 23, as they sat on the stoop of Perkins’ home on Van Siclen Street. Wearing a blonde wig and long coat, he approached them and opened fire with a high-capacity rifle, killing both victims.
Authorities revealed that the murders were premeditated, with the victims specifically chosen due to their connections to an individual involved in an ongoing feud with Hernandez. This individual is rumored to be a former friend turned enemy of Brooklyn rapper Maino, who has faced his own share of conflicts in the past. Reports suggest that this feud escalated to the point where Hernandez felt compelled to target those associated with Maino, including a person believed to have attacked the rapper during a previous jail stint.
The life sentence handed down to Hernandez includes no possibility of parole, underscoring the severity of his crimes and the lasting impact on the victims’ families.
