Local News: Major Drug Operations in Rochester Taken Down as Leaders Sentenced

In a significant development for public safety, the New York Attorney General’s office has announced the conclusion of lengthy drug trafficking investigations that have led to the convictions and sentencing of key figures behind two major local drug operations. Over the course of these investigations, 47 individuals were convicted, resulting in the seizure of more than 10 kilograms of fentanyl, over 10 kilograms of cocaine, and 19 firearms.

Attorney General Letitia James commended the efforts of her office’s Organized Crime Task Force and the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office for their dedicated work in bringing these operations to justice. One of the dismantled networks was based in Wayne County, led by Michael Danzey from Sodus.

The investigation revealed that Danzey was involved in a violent incident in 2021, where he allegedly attempted to murder an individual for stealing from him, subsequently enlisting his brother, Terrance Raggs, to help cover up the crime. Danzey’s extensive cocaine distribution operation spanned across Ontario and Monroe County, leading to his conviction and a sentence of 25 years in prison, with an additional five years of post-release supervision.

In a separate investigation, law enforcement targeted the Rivera family, led by Luis Rivera in Rochester and his sons. This operation was found to be shipping drugs from California to supply local dealers on Avenue D in Rochester.

As these investigations wrap up, the Attorney General’s office emphasizes the importance of continued vigilance and collaboration in combating drug trafficking and organized crime in the region.
