Sean “Diddy” Combs is making headlines as he requests to serve his prison sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, a low-security facility known for its drug treatment programs. In a letter addressed to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs’ attorneys highlighted the need for rehabilitation, stating that the move would help address his drug abuse issues and facilitate family visits.
The request comes just days after Combs was sentenced to over four years in prison for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, with credit for time served since his arrest. He has already spent 12 months at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Defense attorney Teny Geragos emphasized the importance of the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), which is the Bureau of Prisons’ most intensive treatment initiative. “In order to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs,” Geragos stated.
With approximately 4,000 inmates, FCI Fort Dix could provide Combs with a structured environment focused on rehabilitation. As the music mogul navigates this challenging chapter, his request raises questions about the intersection of celebrity status and the prison system, particularly regarding access to specialized programs for drug treatment.
