In a shocking incident, two men from Brooklyn have been accused of robbing $148,000 worth of jewelry at gunpoint from a Kay Jewelers store located in the Green Acres mall in Valley Stream. Nassau County police announced the arrests following a three-week investigation into the brazen heist.
The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Alonzo Simpson from East Flatbush and 28-year-old Jahquan Williams from Brownsville, allegedly entered the jewelry store on September 18 around 8 p.m., just an hour before the mall was set to close for the night. According to police reports, the pair approached a 25-year-old female employee and asked to view a necklace. Once she opened the display case, one of the men brandished a firearm, prompting the employee to comply in fear for her life as they made off with several pieces of jewelry.
Both men have been charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of second-degree robbery, first-degree robbery, and second-degree grand larceny. Court records indicate that Simpson was arrested last Wednesday and was arraigned the following day on October 2. Williams was taken into custody the day after and is expected to face arraignment later today at First District Court in Hempstead.
