Levi Aron, the man infamous for the 2011 murder of 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky in Brooklyn, has passed away at a hospital in Erie County, New York. According to the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), Aron, 49, died on Wednesday morning. While the cause of death has not yet been disclosed, DOCCS confirmed that he had been hospitalized since late August and that his death was anticipated.
Aron was serving a sentence of 40 years to life in prison at Wende Correctional Facility for the kidnapping and murder of Kletzky. The tragic case gripped the community when Kletzky went missing in July 2011 after leaving a day camp in Borough Park. It was reported that it was Kletzky’s first time walking home alone, and he became lost, approaching Aron for directions.

Aron claimed to have taken Kletzky to a wedding in Rockland County before bringing him back to his Brooklyn apartment. After seeing missing posters of Kletzky the following day, Aron confessed to panicking and smothering the child before dismembering his body. The medical examiner’s office revealed that Kletzky had been given multiple prescription drugs prior to his death.
Following a thorough search, police were able to track down Aron using surveillance footage. Kletzky’s body was discovered in two different locations, including Aron’s apartment. Initially pleading not guilty to the charges of kidnapping and murder, Aron later accepted a plea deal, resulting in his sentencing in August 2012.
As the community reflects on this tragic case and its implications, Aron’s passing marks the end of a chapter in a story that has left a lasting impact on Brooklyn and beyond.
