Dae Dae, the Atlanta rapper known for his hit “Wat U Mean (Aye, Aye, Aye),” has been embroiled in legal troubles following an incident where he allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old cashier at a Dunkin’ location in 2021. The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a dispute over an unavailable donut order, leading to a violent escalation that has now drawn the attention of the Georgia courts.
Surveillance footage captured the moment when Dae Dae became irate upon discovering that the shop was out of the specific donut he wanted. After initially storming off, he returned about ten minutes later, demanding to speak with a manager. When cashier Mekia Bryant informed him that no manager was present, the argument intensified, culminating in Dae Dae pulling out a kitchen knife and stabbing her in the arm.
Despite the severity of the attack, the Georgia Court of Appeals has ruled that Bryant is only eligible for standard workers’ compensation, limiting her potential damages. Judge Amanda Mercier stated in the court’s decision that “[Dae Dae’s] act of stabbing Bryant arose out of his displeasure with her job performance.” The ruling emphasized that the incident was work-related, as the dispute directly stemmed from Bryant’s duties as a cashier.
At the time of the attack, Bryant, who was a minor, initially declined medical treatment but later filed a lawsuit against Dunkin’s parent company, seeking compensation for emotional trauma and physical injuries. However, the court denied her request, stating she could only receive benefits under Georgia’s workers’ compensation laws. This system allows injured workers to receive up to two-thirds of their average weekly wage, capped at $800 per week for up to 400 weeks, which is notably lower than compensation in many other Southern states.
Dae Dae was arrested in June 2021 after evading law enforcement for six months. Prior to the stabbing incident, he had already faced legal issues, including charges related to stolen firearms and drug possession. Following the allegations, he took to Instagram to deny any involvement, claiming that people were attempting to tarnish his reputation.
