Celebrity News: DJ Akademiks Attributes Stalled Hip-Hop Progress to Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s Feud

In a recent livestream, DJ Akademiks weighed in on the long-lasting feud between two of hip-hop’s biggest stars, Drake and Kendrick Lamar, suggesting that their rivalry may have inadvertently slowed the progression of the genre. He expressed that while the beef generated significant buzz and financial success for media outlets, it has also led to a stagnation in storytelling within hip-hop.

Akademiks noted, “During the Drake vs Kendrick beef, numbers went crazy, the biggest money period of my career, and I’m sure it was the same for other media outlets too. That’s why the media keeps milking it long after it ended.” He emphasized that hip-hop thrives on fresh narratives, and the relentless focus on this feud hampers the emergence of new stars and moments in the industry.

This isn’t the first time Akademiks has discussed the implications of the Drake and Kendrick rivalry. Earlier in October, during an interview with VladTV, he advised Drake to refrain from mentioning Kendrick in his forthcoming album, ICEMAN. He argued that continuing to engage in conflicts with other artists might not be beneficial for Drake’s career, suggesting that he should adopt a more strategic approach similar to Jay-Z’s.

“When I mean leave him alone, we’ve got to leave the moment. There’s no more direct engaging. There ain’t no more diss songs. It’s over,” he stated. He urged that further battles would yield no advantages for Drake, who has already established a solidified position in the industry.

While Drake’s new project remains without an official release date, it is anticipated to drop sometime in 2026. As the conversation around hip-hop’s evolution continues, DJ Akademiks’ insights highlight the delicate balance between rivalry and growth in the genre.
