Celebrity Legal: DC Rapper Sentenced to 18 Years for Armed Jewelry Heists

In a significant legal development, DC-based rapper Trevor Jonathan Wright, better known by his stage name “Taliban Glizzy,” has been sentenced to 18 years in federal prison following a series of armed robberies that caused substantial financial losses to multiple jewelry stores. This announcement was made by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Wright, aged 34, was handed a sentence of 219 months behind bars for orchestrating violent heists targeting South Asian jewelry shops, resulting in the theft of millions in gold and cash. U.S. Attorney for D.C., Jeanine Pirro, remarked on the severity of Wright’s actions, stating, “After one armed robbery that yielded nearly $2 million, Wright used the proceeds to buy a Rolex. He certainly won’t need a luxury timepiece to track the 18 years he’ll now spend incarcerated.”

In September 2025, Wright pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges related to robbery and gun offenses. His plea agreement detailed his involvement in three separate armed robberies across New Jersey and Florida.

Pirro emphasized the impact of Wright’s criminal activities, noting, “Trevor Wright and his crew instilled fear in their victims from Northern New Jersey to South Florida. Their reckless actions led to considerable destruction and financial hardships for family-run businesses.” The crew’s modus operandi included smashing glass display cases and hastily collecting stolen goods in laundry bags.

Court documents revealed that the robberies were meticulously planned over an 18-month period. Wright and his associates conducted thorough research to identify potential targets, often renting vehicles or utilizing stolen license plates to evade law enforcement.

During these brazen heists, the crew employed sledgehammers to break into stores, and once they secured the gold, they either sold the jewelry in Miami or melted it down into bars for cash transactions. One notable robbery in New Jersey alone resulted in the theft of approximately $1.93 million worth of gold jewelry.

Wright’s downfall came in 2022 when he was arrested after leaving a D.C. nightclub. Authorities found over $17,300 in cash in his possession, which was later connected to a robbery in Florida. In addition to his lengthy prison sentence, Wright has also been ordered to undergo four years of supervised release following his incarceration.

As of January 14, additional co-conspirators involved in the robbery scheme have also faced sentencing.
