In a heartbreaking announcement, legendary hip-hop artist Lil Jon, born Jonathan Smith, has confirmed the tragic passing of his son, Nathan Smith, who was just 27 years old. The news was conveyed through a heartfelt statement to People Magazine on Friday.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our son, Nathan,” the 55-year-old “Get Low” rapper expressed. “His mother, Nicole, and I are completely devastated.”
Lil Jon further shared his fond memories of Nathan, describing him as “the kindest person you could ever meet.” He highlighted Nathan’s caring and thoughtful nature, emphasizing his passion for family and friends. “He was an extraordinarily talented young man—an artist, music producer, and engineer, as well as a proud graduate of NYU,” he noted.

The grieving father continued, “We loved Nathan with all our hearts and are incredibly proud of him. He was deeply cherished, and in our final moments together, we found comfort in expressing that love.”
Tragically, Nathan was reported missing after he left his home barefoot and without a phone on February 3. Following several days of searching, the Cherokee County Fire Department divers discovered his body in a pond located at Mayfield Park, near the family’s residence in Milton, on Friday morning. The Milton County Police Department confirmed the recovery of Nathan’s body, stating there was no initial indication of foul play, although they will continue to treat the case as an active investigation.

Nathan, known by his stage name DJ Young Slade, had a budding music career and a modest following on SoundCloud. His latest single, “Feels,” was released in March 2025. In a 2025 interview, he expressed appreciation for his father’s influence, saying, “It’s great to respect my dad and acknowledge his achievements while also carving out my own path in music.”
