Local News: Brooklyn Woman Sentenced to 15 Years for Attempted Murder and Assault in East New York Incident

A 34-year-old woman from Brooklyn has been sentenced to 15 years in prison following a violent incident in which she attacked her roommate and the roommate’s daughter. Iescha Gowdy, a resident of East New York, pleaded guilty to charges of attempted murder and criminal use of a firearm, leading to her sentencing at Brooklyn Supreme Court by Justice Rhonda Tomlinson on January 6.

Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez reported that the incident occurred on January 1, 2024. During this altercation, Gowdy discharged a firearm within their shared residence, threatening the occupants and causing chaos. Although no one was struck by the gunfire, the situation escalated when the victim’s daughter attempted to escape, prompting Gowdy to pursue her and strike her on the forehead with the firearm.

As the struggle continued, the victims managed to disarm Gowdy temporarily. However, she returned armed with a knife, resulting in her stabbing the older woman in the neck and injuring the family dog. Gowdy was apprehended the following day, and her legal proceedings culminated in a guilty plea.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Amelia Digirolamo from the District Attorney’s Red Zone Trial Bureau, under the guidance of Bureau Chief Karla Watson. The victims received medical attention for their injuries, and Gowdy’s sentence includes 15 years behind bars, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
