HipHopRaisedMeSports: Trae Young Set to Make Wizards Debut Against Jazz

Washington Wizards point guard Trae Young is poised to make his debut for the team this Thursday against the Utah Jazz, according to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Young has been sidelined since December 27 due to knee and quadriceps injuries.

Acquired by the Wizards in January through a trade with the Atlanta Hawks, which involved sending CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert to Atlanta, Young has faced a challenging season. He has only played in 10 games this season, posting the lowest statistics since his rookie year, averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists, while struggling with his shooting from beyond the arc at just 30.5%.

With a current record of 16-43, the Wizards find themselves in 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Young’s return is seen as a strategic move for the future, allowing the team to evaluate how he meshes with their younger talents, including Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Tre Johnson, Bilal Coulibaly, and Bub Carrington.

However, the Wizards are still awaiting the debut of another significant trade acquisition, Anthony Davis. Davis, who was traded from the Dallas Mavericks, has not yet played for the Wizards due to ongoing rehabilitation from ligament damage in his hand, suffered back in Dallas. He last played on January 8 and has yet to practice with the team. The Wizards announced on February 19 that they would reevaluate his condition.

In the time he spent with the Mavericks this season, Davis averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks over 20 games. Both Young and Davis are notable for their combined 14 All-Star appearances, yet they have both encountered injury struggles in recent seasons. The Wizards are hopeful that these new superstar additions will help them secure their first postseason appearance since the 2020-21 season.
