Get ready to roll with the Doggfather himself! Snoop Dogg has officially announced that his highly anticipated biopic is set to hit theaters in 2027. The announcement was made during his appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 15, where he revealed that production will begin this summer.
In an exciting twist, Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss has been cast to portray a young Snoop Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus Jr., as he navigates the challenging landscape of the rap industry. The film, aptly titled “Snoop,” promises to bring the West Coast rap legend’s story to life, with Craig Brewer, known for “Hustle & Flow,” at the helm as director. The project will be produced by Brian Grazer, who previously brought Eminem’s story to the big screen in “8 Mile,” alongside Snoop himself.
“This is my turn to tell my story after my brothers shared theirs in ‘Straight Outta Compton,’” Snoop stated, referencing the impactful N.W.A. biopic from 2015 that also featured a portrayal of him. He teased that the film will be rated R, hinting at the raw and honest narrative fans can expect.
Snoop’s journey in the music industry spans over three decades, with a discography that includes classic hits like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and collaborations with artists such as Katy Perry and Akon. Beyond music, he has ventured into various projects, including appearances on “The Voice” and coverage for NBC during the Olympics.
As Snoop prepares to share his life story on the big screen, fans are eagerly awaiting more details, including a trailer that he promises will be revealed at next year’s CinemaCon. With his Death Row Pictures in collaboration with NBCUniversal, Snoop even joked about having a trailer next to legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg, adding a touch of humor to the announcement.
