As the boxing world turns its eyes to Quebec City, the spotlight is on Osleys Iglesias as he prepares to defend his IBF super middleweight title against unbeaten contender Oliver Zaren this Thursday, October 8. The event, hosted at the Théâtre Capitole, promises to deliver an exciting night of fights, with a card that includes various intriguing matchups beneath the main event.
Iglesias, boasting an impressive record of 15 wins with 14 knockouts, stands as a formidable champion in the super middleweight division. However, despite holding the IBF and IBO titles, he has yet to face some of the biggest names in the sport. Notably, high-profile fighters like Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia have opted not to pursue a matchup with the Cuban powerhouse, leaving Iglesias in search of worthy adversaries to solidify his standing. While Canelo cited recovery from elbow surgery as a reason for his absence, the situation has left Iglesias with the challenge of finding opponents who can match his skill level and draw the attention of fans.
The clash with Zaren, who holds a record of 19 wins, one draw, and 8 knockouts, presents both a risk and an opportunity for Iglesias. Zaren’s willingness to step into the ring against a champion known for his knockout power shows his ambition and determination. For Zaren, the task will be to disrupt Iglesias’ rhythm and create opportunities for himself, as allowing the champion to control the pace could lead to a one-sided battle.
The co-main event adds further excitement for viewers, featuring Wilkens Mathieu, who will defend his NABF super middleweight title against Vladimir Shishkin. This matchup is particularly compelling, as Shishkin was previously defeated by Iglesias, making it a point of reference for both fighters. Mathieu will need to showcase his ability to handle a seasoned contender while seeking to establish his own path in the division.
Additionally, the card features a lightweight showdown between Dzmitry Asanau and Luis Santana, both of whom are unbeaten and part of the Eye of the Tiger promotion. This match carries the potential for one fighter to suffer their first defeat, heightening the stakes as both men aim to prove their mettle against rising competition.
The event not only showcases the nine titles on the line but also offers a glimpse into the future of boxing as fighters look to solidify their reputations and climb the ranks. Iglesias, with his knockout prowess, remains focused on securing high-profile opponents who can elevate his status within the sport.
As the boxing community eagerly anticipates this exciting event, fans can look forward to a night of electrifying action filled with talent and ambition. Be sure to catch all the action, as these fighters put everything on the line in pursuit of greatness.
