DJ QUIK: “SUGE KNIGHT THREW A GRENADE INTO THE HOUSE WITH ALL OF US IN IT”

DJ Quik was a guest on a recent episode of All The Smoke where he discussed some behind-the-scenes tales from the infamous 1995 Source Awards.

“When I’m performing my part from the famous jail scene Biggie and Faith were boppin’ to my shit in the front row,” he remembered. “I didn’t think they liked my music, and I was cool with that because B.I.G. was hard. He had something that was very unique and singular to him.”

Quik then explained how his moment was ruined a few minutes later when Suge went into his now-famous rant criticizing Diddy’s role in his artist’s music and videos and presenting his label Death Row as an alternative.

“20 minutes later, Suge said what he said,” Quik explained.

Damn Suge, at least warn us if you’re gonna do that shit, so we can prepare.

Me and Nate Dogg stood up because we were gettin’ scowled at by everybody like they were about to tear our heads off,” Quik recalled.

After agreeing to watch each other backs in their exit, Quik said that they were rushed out to the back where they were met by an animated Flavor Flav of Public Enemy shouting, “That was foul what your man’s did!”

Quik described Knight’s trade as “throwing a grenade in the house while were are all in it at Madison Square Garden.” The 1995 Source Awards marked an early pivotal chapter in the East-West conflict that eventually led to the unsolved murders of both 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G.
