Savannah, GA – Quando Rondo, the rapper known for his hit songs, has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison after pleading guilty to a federal drug charge. The artist, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman, entered his plea back in August, admitting to a single count of conspiracy to possess and distribute marijuana.
Initially facing a potential five-year sentence, Rondo’s punishment was reduced following his plea agreement. In addition to his prison time, the 25-year-old rapper has been ordered to pay a $40,000 fine and will serve three years of probation upon his release. He will also be subject to drug testing, mental health counseling, and educational training as part of his probation requirements.
In an interview with local ABC affiliate WJCL, Quando Rondo expressed a positive outlook regarding his situation, viewing his prison sentence as an opportunity for growth. “As crazy as it sounds, that’s enough time to really sit down, rehabilitate myself, come up with some better plans, come out and move forward for my family and friends,” he stated.
Rondo aims to serve as a role model for young people, emphasizing the importance of making positive choices. “I want to show them that they can do something way better and positive,” he added, reinforcing that “doing the right thing and walking down the right path is cool.”
Originally, Quando Rondo faced more severe charges related to drug conspiracy and involvement in criminal street gang activity. However, he reached a deal with prosecutors that allowed him to plead guilty to the lesser charge. In the wake of his sentencing, Rondo has publicly acknowledged his past mistakes, stating, “I’ve had ups and downs, but I know I can do better—not just for myself, but for the community that has supported me. Savannah deserves more from me, and I’m working hard to be a better person.”
In addition to his current legal challenges, Rondo has an ongoing case related to a DUI following a high-speed car crash in July 2023, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Reports indicated that he was speeding and displayed signs of an overdose during the incident, leading medical personnel to administer Narcan at the scene.
Despite these challenges, Rondo recently celebrated eight months of sobriety, sharing his journey on Instagram. “I been sober 8 months straight!!!” he wrote, expressing gratitude for his progress. “I finally love being sober!” He reflected on his past struggles with substance abuse, acknowledging the risks he faced and emphasizing his determination to move forward.
