In an exciting development for fans of the beloved Friday franchise, Mike Epps has officially confirmed his participation in the highly anticipated fourth installment, Last Friday. During a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Epps, who famously portrayed Day Day in the second and third films, revealed that the deal is finalized and that he is eager to reunite with the film’s original creator, Ice Cube.
“I just got off the phone with Cube the other day, and he said, ‘We just finished the deal,’” Epps shared. “So we’re doing Last Friday. I haven’t seen the script yet, but I’m confident it’ll be great. We’re bringing in new comics, like DC Young Fly, to join the OGs, and it’s going to be a fantastic time.”
Epps didn’t shy away from expressing his desire for Chris Tucker to reprise his iconic role as Smokey in the new film. “We need to get Chris Tucker in it because people still love him. He laid the groundwork for this franchise,” Epps implored. “Chris, if you’re listening: we need ya, baby boy. Come on back!”
Ice Cube has previously teased fans about the film’s return, indicating that they plan to modernize the story while keeping the essence that made Friday a cultural touchstone. In an interview on Million Dollaz Worth of Game, he stated, “It’s coming back. We’re going to make it dope, make it funny, and bring it up to date. We’ll introduce new characters while also bringing back old favorites to recreate that feeling people love.”
Cube’s enthusiasm comes after a long wait for the sequel, as he had faced numerous challenges in securing the rights from Warner Bros. “We finally got some traction with Warner Bros.,” he explained, attributing the delay to the loss of key cast members like John Witherspoon and A.J. Johnson. “We keep losing people, and they’ve been dragging their feet. But now, they’ve come to their senses, and we’re ready to make it happen.”
As the excitement builds around Last Friday, the anticipation of reuniting beloved characters and introducing fresh talent promises to evoke nostalgia while bringing a contemporary twist. Fans are left hopeful that the comedic magic of the franchise will continue, as Epps and Cube prepare to deliver another unforgettable chapter in the Friday saga.
With Epps’ confirmation and Ice Cube’s commitment to creating a worthy sequel, the stage is set for what could be a monumental return to the screen for this iconic series. As the production gears up, the hip-hop and comedy worlds eagerly await what Last Friday has in store.
