In a significant crackdown on gang activity, authorities announced the arrest of 89 individuals as part of a multi-agency operation called “Operation Shock Collar.” This extensive operation targeted members of the Bulldog gang in Fresno County, California, and focused on crimes ranging from murder to drug trafficking and illegal gun smuggling.
On June 27, 2025, local and state leaders, including Attorney General Rob Bonta, shared the results of this months-long investigation aimed at dismantling the gang’s operations. The operation was particularly concentrated in rural areas of Fresno County, where gang affiliations such as Huron Dog Life, Coalinga Dog Life, and San Joaquin Ruthless Perro were identified.
U.S. Attorney General Rob Bonta emphasized the operation’s impact, stating, “We are not just arresting individuals; we are disrupting entire criminal operations.” He highlighted the seriousness of the gang’s activities, which included trafficking firearms, distributing dangerous drugs, and even smuggling narcotics into jails.
Among those arrested, 38 individuals will face federal charges, and 11 are being charged with conspiracy to commit murder, including one suspect linked to a murder case dating back to 2017. The operation has revealed a complex criminal network, with ringleader Ignacio “Giddy” Sanchez reportedly orchestrating activities from a Salinas prison.
Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni noted the expansive reach of the Bulldog gang, stating that their operations extend into surrounding counties and along major highways like Interstate 5. The gang, which has existed since the 1980s, is estimated to have between six to ten thousand members in the region, with reports indicating that younger recruits are increasingly being involved in criminal activities.
District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp expressed concern over the involvement of juveniles in gang crimes, attributing this trend to legislative changes that have made it challenging to prosecute young offenders effectively. Notably, three minors were arrested during this operation.
The operation mobilized upwards of 550 law enforcement personnel, underscoring the scale and seriousness of the crackdown. Authorities displayed images of four outstanding fugitives, indicating that their work is far from over and sending a clear message to remaining gang members.
