In a shocking turn of events, rapper Ca$h Out, whose real name is John-Michael Hakim Gibson, has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 70 years after being convicted on multiple charges related to a sex trafficking ring operating in metro Atlanta. The sentencing took place on July 21, 2025, in Fulton County, where the jury found him guilty of serious offenses including rape, pimping, and aggravated sodomy.
Ca$h Out was convicted on two counts of sex trafficking, though he was acquitted on a third. Additional charges, such as sexual servitude and aggravated assault, were dismissed. The court has mandated that the 70-year sentence run concurrently with the life term, meaning he will not serve any extra time beyond the life sentence. Furthermore, he is required to register as a sex offender, avoid contact with victims or their families, and steer clear of several locations in Atlanta, including the Fulton Industrial Boulevard corridor.
During the sentencing, Ca$h Out expressed his gratitude for what he perceived as a fair trial, stating, “I want to thank the jurors for the amount of time that they put in to judge this trial. It’s a hard decision, and I felt like they made the wrong judgment. I’ve done things in my life. I’m not perfect. But the things I’ve been accused of, I know that I haven’t done those things.” Initially offered a plea deal of 25 years, the rapper opted to take the case to trial, a decision that ultimately backfired.
Emotional statements from victims and their families painted a harrowing picture of the trauma endured, with one woman describing feelings of being “disgusting” and “unlovable” after her experiences. Ca$h Out’s mother, Linda Smith, known as “Mama Ca$h Out,” was also convicted on one trafficking charge, receiving a 30-year sentence. A third defendant, Tyrone Taylor, was found guilty on multiple charges, including rape and aggravated sodomy, and received a life sentence plus 70 years.
Once known for his 2012 hit single “Cashin’ Out,” Ca$h Out had faded from the music scene by the time the investigation into his activities began in 2019.
