Shocking Stories: ‘Aimed His HIV Positive Blood’: Man Allegedly Sprays Hospital Workers During Treatment

In a disturbing incident at UNC Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina, a man is accused of using his HIV positive blood as a weapon against hospital workers while receiving treatment for diabetes. Kameron Gilchrist, 25, allegedly removed his IV and began “spraying” his blood into the eyes of two healthcare professionals attending to him.

According to an arrest warrant, Gilchrist intentionally aimed his blood at the victims, resulting in felony charges for assaulting emergency personnel. The attack occurred in March, when the hospital staff were treating him for medical reasons. The warrant states, “On or about the date of offense… [Gilchrist] unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did assault [the workers]… by spraying HIV blood into eyes.”

The act reportedly caused “irritation and exposure to HIV,” although it remains unclear whether the employees contracted the virus. Law enforcement has not confirmed further details regarding the investigation, as they did not respond to requests for comment.

While undergoing treatment, Gilchrist is said to have removed his IV and aimed the blood at the workers’ eyes, leading to the alarming exposure. He was arrested in September but was not taken into custody immediately due to his ongoing medical and psychiatric treatment. Local NBC affiliate WRAL reported that violence against medical personnel has been rising, prompting UNC Rex Hospital officials to emphasize their commitment to protecting the health and safety of their employees.

Gilchrist is currently being held on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 8.
