Local News: Bronx Man Kills Three Family Members Before Taking His Own Life in Tragic Incident

A horrific tragedy unfolded in a Bronx housing project on Wednesday morning, where a 44-year-old man reportedly shot and killed three family members, including his elderly mother, before turning the gun on himself. The incident took place at the Castle Hill Houses around 9:45 a.m., sending shockwaves through the community.

The shooter, identified only as the son of one of the victims, fatally gunned down 75-year-old Theresa Stukes, his daughter, and her boyfriend. Neighbors described Stukes, affectionately known as a “Golden Girl,” as a beloved figure in the community who was always involved in celebrations and supportive of those around her.

“I started crying, because that’s one of the ‘Golden Girls,’” said neighbor Jeanette Martinez. “She was always out doing celebrations, barbecues, supporting people, giving good advice. She was a wonderful person.”

The police have not disclosed what may have prompted the massacre. According to sources, Stukes was found near a bedroom in the apartment, while her daughter’s boyfriend was discovered near the front door. The shooter was later found on the couch with a gun in his hand.

Prior to the shootings, the suspect left a voicemail for his 20-year-old son, who resides in North Carolina, around 8:10 a.m. He returned to the apartment shortly after and was discovered dead shortly thereafter. The police were alerted to the scene when the mother of the gunman’s child requested a wellness check.

Family friend Janet Dukes spoke about Theresa Stukes’s unwavering support for her son, stating, “Whatever happens, the son has to go to prison, lose jobs, parents are there. She stuck with him 100% in every kind of way.” Dukes expressed disbelief at the situation, noting that the shooter did not display violent tendencies.

The community is reeling from the loss, with many neighbors recalling fond memories of the victims. “It’s just heartbreaking,” said tenant Luis Rolon. “I just found out this morning, and it’s devastating to hear about it.”

Margarita Rivera, a longtime neighbor of Stukes, described her as “one of the nicest people in the building,” reminiscing about the kindness she showed during difficult times.

As investigations continue, the city medical examiner will determine the official causes of death. The Bronx community is left mourning the loss of an amazing family, grappling with the aftermath of this tragic event.
