Stefon Diggs is currently embroiled in serious legal troubles as he faces felony strangulation charges related to an incident that occurred on December 2, shortly after the New England Patriots triumphed over the New York Giants in a Monday Night Football game.
The 32-year-old wide receiver made a court appearance in Dedham District Court via his attorney, Michael DiStefano, who requested that the judge seal the police report associated with the case. During the hearing, Diggs’ lawyer revealed that they are working on a financial settlement with the alleged victim. The judge indicated she would consider the request and provide a ruling soon.
The Patriots have publicly expressed their support for Diggs, stating, “Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary.”
This incident is not the first time Diggs has faced legal challenges. He has been dealing with multiple lawsuits over the past year, including a suit from his ex-girlfriend, Mulan Hernandez, who accused him of assault and is seeking damages between $250,000 and $1 million. In response, Diggs has countersued Hernandez and another individual, Brianna “Brii” Mack, alleging extortion, assault, and trespassing.
Additionally, social media influencer Christopher Blake Griffith has made sexual assault allegations against Diggs, which he has vehemently denied, leading him to file a defamation lawsuit against Griffith in federal court.
As if the legal turmoil wasn’t enough, Diggs is also facing scrutiny from fans of his girlfriend, Cardi B. The rapper defended their relationship after receiving backlash for dating the NFL star, particularly regarding Diggs’ absence during Christmas with their newborn son. Cardi expressed the need for support from her fans rather than criticism, emphasizing the importance of unity in the face of challenges.
As the Patriots celebrate their first AFC East division title since 2019, the timing of Diggs’ legal issues could not be more critical. He is scheduled for arraignment on January 23, just days before the AFC Championship game. His attorney has requested a postponement of that date to March, which would help steer the legal drama away from the playoffs.
