In a recent interview on DJ Whoo Kid’s podcast, T.I. discussed his longstanding relationship with Lil Wayne, acknowledging the Louisiana rapper’s legendary status but firmly denying any claims of influence. T.I. expressed his admiration for Wayne, stating, “I’m a Hot Boys fan… to see what he’s become and what he’s evolved into… is super dope. I think he’s definitely legendary.”
When asked if Lil Wayne inspired his own artistry, T.I. quickly set the record straight, responding emphatically, “Excuse me? Hell no. He ain’t influence me. I ain’t said no sh*t like that.” Instead, T.I. emphasized a mutual respect and competitive spirit between them, saying, “We do push each other… When I hear him do something dope, I say, okay, let me go do something doper.”
The two rappers share a rich history and have collaborated on numerous occasions, including the track “Swagga Like Us” in 2008, which has been the subject of speculation regarding possible beef between them. T.I. addressed this during an appearance on Fat Joe’s STARZ show, clarifying that the respect between them is undeniable. He recounted how the collaboration came together, explaining how he was initially brought on board for the track and then encouraged to involve Wayne and Jay-Z.
Their dynamic illustrates the competitive nature of hip-hop, with both artists carving out their own lanes while simultaneously inspiring one another.
