Prison Release: Fetty Wap Is Free After Early Release from Prison

Fetty Wap, the acclaimed rapper known for his hit “Trap Queen,” has returned home after being released from prison 11 months earlier than anticipated. The artist, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was freed on January 8, following a three-year stint behind bars due to federal drug charges.

According to representatives for Fetty Wap, his release comes as a surprise, considering he was originally set to remain incarcerated until December 2026. In his statement, he expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, “I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me.” He emphasized his commitment to giving back to the community through initiatives aimed at supporting at-risk youth, focusing on education, early tech skills, and vision care.

Fetty Wap’s legal troubles began in October 2021 when he was arrested in Queens just before his performance at Rolling Loud NYC. Following a federal indictment, he pled guilty to a charge of conspiring to distribute over 500 grams of cocaine in August 2022, which led to a six-year prison sentence handed down in May 2023.

During his incarceration, Fetty was held in a low-security facility in Sandstone, Minnesota. However, his early release signals a positive turn in his life. On the music front, he has remained active, collaborating with Doe Boe on the track “Lil Sexy” in June. Additionally, his 2015 hit “Again” saw a resurgence in 2025, re-entering the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the TikTok Billboard Top 50.

Fetty Wap burst onto the music scene in the mid-2010s, achieving rapid success with multiple top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits, including the diamond-certified tracks “Trap Queen,” “679,” and “My Way.”

As he transitions back into his life after prison, fans and supporters alike look forward to what’s next for the artist. Stay tuned for more updates on Fetty Wap and his future endeavors at hiphopraisedmetheblog.com.
