Local News: Eighth Hyena Crips Member Pleads Guilty in Brooklyn Racketeering Case

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — A member of the notorious Hyena Crips gang has pled guilty to charges related to racketeering and murder in a federal court, marking the eighth individual from the gang to do so in a protracted violent conspiracy, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Richler Morette, 30, also known as “Breezy,” has admitted to his involvement in racketeering linked to a deadly drive-by shooting and conspiracy to murder members of rival gangs. Prosecutors have indicated that Morette could face a life sentence for his actions.

The Flatbush-based gang has been implicated in a series of violent crimes, including murders, robberies, and fraud schemes over the past decade. Notable among the victims are Leandre Mallinckrodt, killed in 2012, 15-year-old Samuel Joseph in 2019, and Roodson Polynice in 2020. Court documents reveal that Morette reportedly reacted to the 2020 shooting with laughter and indifferent messages, showcasing a blatant disregard for human life.

With seven co-defendants having already pled guilty and several awaiting sentencing, the case continues to progress through the federal court system.
