J. Cole is gearing up for an exciting few weeks as he prepares to drop his highly anticipated album The Fall-Off on February 6. However, it seems that fans can expect even more from the Fayetteville rapper, as Jadakiss has revealed that Cole will also be releasing a mixtape prior to the album’s debut.
During a recent episode of the Joe & Jada podcast hosted by Jadakiss and Fat Joe, Jadakiss shared details about this upcoming project. According to him, the mixtape will feature J. Cole rhyming over classic hip-hop beats, including tracks from The LOX, such as “Money, Power & Respect” and “Can I Live.” Jadakiss enthusiastically stated, “He killed them shits. Cole is coming back in a major way. When you hear his bars, all [the backlash to his Kendrick Lamar apology] don’t matter. He’s coming crazy.”
These comments have sparked excitement among fans, fueling speculation that J. Cole may release the mixtape, rumored to be titled It’s a Boy, on January 28, coinciding with his 40th birthday. This title was initially mentioned by Cole when he first announced The Fall-Off back in 2020.
Adding to the anticipation, J. Cole recently dropped a new single, “Disc 2 Track 2,” which hints that The Fall-Off might be a double album or accompanied by another project entirely. J. Cole has described the album as his seventh and final studio effort, marking the conclusion of a remarkable career in modern hip-hop.
In a heartfelt message accompanying the music video for “Disc 2 Track 2,” Cole expressed the dedication and effort that went into crafting this album: “For the past 10 years, this album has been hand-crafted with one intention: a personal challenge to myself to create my best work. To do on my last what I was unable to do on my first.”
As the release date approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating both the mixtape and the album, hoping that J. Cole’s latest projects will solidify his legacy in the rap game.
