In a devastating turn of events, rapper Ghetts has been sentenced to 12 years in prison following a fatal hit-and-run that tragically claimed the life of 20-year-old Yubin Tamang in London last year. After pleading guilty to the charges in December, Ghetts was found to be speeding at nearly 70 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone when his BMW M5 struck Tamang, who succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. Disturbingly, Ghetts did not stop to assist or notify emergency services after the incident.
During the sentencing hearing, Yubin’s mother, Sharmila Tamang, delivered a poignant statement to the court, expressing her grief and loss. “My son had come for studies to this place but, because of somebody’s mistakes, he has died at a very small age. Yubin was our only child,” she said tearfully, reflecting on her son’s aspirations and dreams for a better future in the UK.
Tamang’s roommate, Sushant Khadka, also shared heartfelt sentiments, emphasizing the ambitions and plans Yubin had for his life, which were tragically cut short.
In a statement to the court, Ghetts conveyed his remorse, saying, “This young man and his family are in my thoughts daily. I cannot express the enormous feeling of guilt and shame I feel for the suffering I have caused.”
Judge Mark Lucraft KC, in his ruling, described the CCTV footage leading up to the incident as displaying a “quite appalling litany of incidents,” pointing out that Ghetts failed to stop at six red lights and swerved into oncoming traffic before colliding with Tamang. The court also noted that Ghetts was allegedly over the legal alcohol limit while driving. In addition to his prison sentence, the judge has imposed a 17-year driving ban on the rapper.
This incident serves as a tragic reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the profound impact it can have on countless lives. For further updates on this case and more, stay tuned to hiphopraisedmetheblog.com.
