
The highly anticipated Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon is set to take place on March 12 at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. This year’s event will be hosted by the talented Marsai Martin, who is known for her impressive work as both an actress and producer.
Joining her on stage will be a star-studded lineup of presenters, including notable figures such as Michael B. Jordan, Delroy Lindo, Ryan Coogler, Teyana Taylor, and Jurnee Smollett. The 19th annual luncheon is dedicated to honoring the remarkable contributions of Black women in the entertainment industry.
During the ceremony, Chase Infiniti, Kerry Washington, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Zinzi Coogler will be recognized for their significant achievements. A special tribute will also be paid to the women involved in the acclaimed project “Sinners,” celebrating the creative talents of cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw, production designer Hannah Beachler, costume designer Ruth E. Carter, hair designer Shunika Terry-Jennings, and stars Wunmi Mosaku and Jayme Lawson.
A highlight of the event will be a joint presentation by Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler, honoring Oscar-nominated producer Zinzi Coogler and the creative team behind the groundbreaking film that has become a cultural touchstone. Delroy Lindo will take the stage to honor Kerry Washington, his co-star from the Hulu series “UnPrisoned,” while Teyana Taylor will pay tribute to her “One Battle After Another” co-star, Chase Infiniti. Jurnee Smollett will honor her godmother, the legendary LaTanya Richardson Jackson.
Adding to the excitement, Grammy-winning artist Mýa will perform, making this a multifaceted celebration of Black women’s accomplishments and their evolving narratives in Hollywood. The theme for this year, “Off Script,” reflects the growing influence of Black women who are redefining their roles and gaining more creative control within the industry.
The ceremony, along with a pre-show hosted by Scott Evans and Stacy Ike, will be streamed live on Essence’s official YouTube channel. The pre-show will feature the presentation of the Essie’s Choice Award, showcasing nominees from CBS’s “Beyond the Gates,” Hulu’s “Reasonable Doubt,” and Netflix’s “Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black” and “Forever.” Additionally, the inaugural Creators’ Award will be presented.
