Billboard Charts: Hip-Hop Faces Billboard Drought as Fans Await Drake’s “Iceman”

It’s been a staggering nine months since a hip-hop song graced the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, with the last track to achieve this feat being Drake’s “What Did I Miss?” released in July 2025. As the genre faces this significant chart drought, fans are expressing their concerns about the state of hip-hop and its once-dominant presence in the music landscape.

The conversation surrounding this drought has been amplified on social media, where users have taken the opportunity to poke fun at Kendrick Lamar following his well-documented feud with Drake. Comments like, “They were so busy trolling Drake, they forgot to stream other rappers’ music,” reflect the mixed feelings within the community. Another user noted the struggles of this current era, calling it “the worst in history.” Many fans are now eagerly calling on Drake to release his highly anticipated album, “Iceman,” to help revitalize the genre’s presence on the charts.

A report from Billboard revealed that for the first time since February 2, 1990, no rap songs appeared in the chart’s top 40, with NBA YoungBoy’s “Shot Callin'” being the highest-ranking hip-hop track at No. 44.

Drake’s “What Did I Miss?” debuted as the lead single from “Iceman” on July 5, 2025, and peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100. Despite its strong initial performance, the track quickly lost momentum, falling out of the top 30 within a month. Since then, Drake has released two additional singles—”Which One” featuring Central Cee and “Dog House” featuring Yeat and Julia Wolf—but he has yet to confirm a release date for the much-anticipated album. Recently, he hinted at its arrival during a video message at the Juno Awards, suggesting fans should stay tuned.

As the hip-hop community eagerly awaits Drake’s next move, the genre’s chart performance remains a topic of intense discussion. For more updates on Billboard charts and the latest in music, stay connected with hiphopraisedmetheblog.com.
