A tragic incident unfolded at Grand Central Station on Saturday when a stabbing suspect, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin, was shot and critically injured by police. He was later pronounced dead, according to official reports.
The chaos began around 9:40 a.m. when officers responded to reports of an ongoing assault within the busy transit hub. Upon arrival, they encountered Griffin, who was reportedly wielding a knife. In response to the threat, one officer discharged their weapon.
Authorities discovered three victims at the scene, all of whom had sustained stab wounds. The first victim was an 84-year-old man who was attacked on the 7-train platform, suffering significant lacerations to his head and face. The second victim, a 65-year-old man on the 4, 5, 6 train platform, also endured serious injuries, including an open skull fracture. A 70-year-old woman was the final victim, who suffered lacerations to her shoulder. Fortunately, all three victims were hospitalized and are reported to be in stable condition.
Griffin was taken to the hospital in critical condition but did not survive. NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed his death during a press conference, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
A knife was recovered at the scene, and investigators have utilized surveillance footage to confirm that Griffin had entered the subway station via the Vernon Street station in Queens.
