The couple was preparing to board a flight to London when CBP officers intercepted them at the departure gate. Upon inspection, officials found the 57 pounds of marijuana packed into 50 vacuum-sealed bags across two checked suitcases. Henson and Coles now face serious charges, including possession of controlled substances, intent to distribute over five pounds of marijuana, and conspiracy to commit drug offenses.
Christine Waugh, the CBP Area Port Director for Washington, D.C., issued a stark warning in light of the incident: “Transnational criminal organizations continue to carelessly profit on the misfortune of others by paying them peanuts to smuggle marijuana to Europe for higher profits.
