In a significant enforcement action, the FBI announced the indictment of ten individuals allegedly involved in a large-scale cocaine trafficking organization operating in Philadelphia. During a press conference on September 23, federal authorities detailed the extensive operations of the Jones-Basley drug trafficking organization, which reportedly operated from 2024 to 2026.
Leading the operation were 48-year-old Gregory Jones, known as “Smallz,” and 47-year-old Edward Basley, referred to as “Beeb.” Both men face serious charges, including conspiracy to distribute over five kilograms of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute drugs. Notably, Jones is also charged with possessing cocaine near an elementary school, while Basley faces additional gun-related charges.
The indictment includes eight other members and associates of the organization, highlighting the reach and complexity of their operations. Those charged range in age from 38 to 54 and hail from various locations, including Philadelphia, Virginia, and Texas.
The investigation revealed that the organization had acquired more than 300 kilograms of cocaine directly from a Mexican cartel, with a distribution network that spanned from the Texas-Mexico border to Philadelphia. Prosecutors estimate that the group moved between $5 million and $10 million worth of cocaine each month. Over the course of the investigation, authorities seized more than $8 million in cocaine and multiple firearms, totaling over $17 million in drug seizures.
David Metcalf, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, described the organization as “apex suppliers,” emphasizing the significant impact these arrests would have on curbing drug trafficking in the city. He noted that the members of this organization had a long history of drug trafficking, with many having previous convictions dating back to the early 2000s, although their sentences were subsequently reduced.
If convicted, the indicted individuals could face life sentences, and prosecutors have indicated that further arrests may be forthcoming as the investigation continues. This operation marks a crucial step in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Philadelphia, reflecting the authorities’ commitment to dismantling sophisticated criminal networks that threaten community safety.
